Three things

May 17th, 2005

Looks like I’ve used that very post title before, heh.

So without too much ado, here’s three things I thought of that my the 200 blog-posts mini anniversary brings:

  1. As suggested by Weblog Tools Collection, I tried to dig out my very first post, and, through the wonders of web.archive.org, I found it. Not terribly exciting, I know, but I reposted it nevertheless. I also, however, posted the second-oldest blog post, which is somewhat more interesting. Pretty obvious there that I’m not a native English speaker. ;-)
  2. As I’m sure you already noticed, I introduced a new post format called the Chuckellania, a myst-bert-suggested contraction of “Chucker” and “miscellania”. Hopefully, this series of blog posts will allow me to post less significant bits of news, rumors and commentary, without distracting too much from the longer other posts.
  3. Finally, money. I can see a lot of people leaving right now because that’s hardly a pleasant topic to talk about. But worry not, this is neither where I’m going to beg for you guys to pay me, nor does this mark the end of free access to the weblog. It’s much simpler than that.
I provide this weblog to the public as a courtesy, in hopes that it will help others keep themselves informed, learn new things, see aspects from a different perspective, and feel encouraged to make up their own mind, rather than read, digest and just accept what’s written for them on paper. (I also write it to improve my writing skills, and to communicate and evilly force my opinion on the world, but you’re not supposed to know that, of course. ;-) ) It would probably be easier for me to close the blog down from the public and write for just myself and a few friends — I’d have to think about what I write a lot less, and I wouldn’t be faced by people telling me that I’m wrong. But I don’t, and, judging from the comments I have received so far, people are fairly happy with what they read. I’m sure they could live without the service, but my readership nonetheless has been growing a lot as of late.
So where am I getting with this? Donations. I don’t have any t-shirts to offer (I’m a sucky designer at best, and who’d want to run around with my photo?), and I can’t design your web site or provide other services. But maybe, just maybe, there’s someone out there who feels “You know, I’ve been reading this for a while, and I feel that the guy deserves a buck or two for writing all that”. If there’s not, that’s great too. You can donate as little as a dollar, if you’d want to, and as much as whatever you prefer, at a currency of your choice (fees may apply, unfortunately). Or you can opt not to donate at all, which is what the majority, if not everyone, will choose, which I’m perfectly okay with. Please don’t feel obliged to. And hey, if you can think of something that I could provide in return of you spending some money, post it in the comments. :-)
Sorry for the rambling, and thanks again to my greatly valued readership.

Pulling a Daring Fireball, are we? ;)

I’d donate if I had money. :(

# chucker

Yes, I did think of John Gruber when coming up with that, but what prompted the idea was seeing another weblog which had little “Like what you’re reading?” messages under each blog post, letting you donate.
