I’ve written about Kiva before, and continue to lend out money for what I hope is a fruitful cause. But aren’t we all still a little bit skeptical if our loans actually end up at those in third-world countries who need them?
Well, Kieran decided to leave his job at Credit Suisse in London to become a Kiva fellow.
The Kiva Fellows Program offers individuals a rare opportunity to travel abroad and witness firsthand the impact and realities of microfinance, by working directly with a host microfinance institution (MFI). The Kiva Fellow is an unpaid, volunteer based position designed to increase Kiva’s impact and to offer participants a unique insider experience.
His colleagues decided to hand him a $25 loan and have him follow it around the world. And so he did! A fantastic, enthralling story with a video.
I find it amazing that these kinds of things are possible nowadays. Even though I work in the very industry that drives them, I am still in awe of projects like Kiva.
